Shortly after moving to Kentucky I came across a YouTube Channel called LessonsLearnt by Sheri McGill. I love company while I’m sewing, whether in person or virtually. Sheri’s friendly and positive videos are upbuilding and encouraging for quilters of all skill levels. I particularly love the “Finish it Friday” videos that showcase the projects her viewers have completed. It fosters a real sense of community and is also great inspiration.
It turns out Sheri and I have a lot in common and we have become good friends. A few months after my quilt studio was finished and I finally had my machine delivered, Sheri decided to send me several quilt tops to be longarm quilted. I can’t express how much that helped me get my business off the ground.
Don’t get me wrong, I had made good use of the time between my machine purchase and delivery (almost 3 years). I had done my due diligence. I took business planning classes from the SBA, the Longarm League’s Rookie Season training, two rounds of Quilting with Confidence from Gammill Education, three days of a small group training with Joan Knight. I bombarded my friend Kim Campbell with questions. I had saved twenty of my own completed quilt tops to practice on. However, Sheri has helped me by being my guinea pig, going through the process from sending Book a Quilt request to choosing thread color and pantographs. The bonus of working on her beautiful quilts is just a dream come true.
Sheri has been incredibly generous by referring her viewers to me and showcasing the projects we have worked on together on her YouTube Channel. Her kind words and encouragement are so flattering.
I am thrilled she has purchased her own longarm and is starting on the journey to finish her own quilts, but I’m going to miss seeing all of her projects in person. Hopefully, I can pay forward some of the kindness that has been shown to me in my journey so far. I’m just a text away.
Images of a few our projects are on this blog. Watch for my 2023 finished quilts gallery for the rest.
